Description:

Patala is known for its diverse therapeutic benefits, including diuretic, cardiac tonic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Various parts of the plant are utilized to address different health issues. The roots of Patala help in balancing vata and managing related disorders, while the flowers, characterized by their cooling properties, are effective for treating blood-related conditions.

The plant is rich in compounds such as naphthoquinone lapachol. The root bark contains 6-sitosterol and n-triacontanol, while the root and heartwood are sources of lapachol, dehydro-a-lapachone, and dehydrotectol. Additionally, the leaves are noted for the flavone glycoside scutellarein and dinatin-7-glucuronide. The seeds contain non-drying oil, bitter substances, sterols, glycosides, and glycoalkaloids, with the root bark also having a bitter component.

Lapachol has been isolated and demonstrated significant activity against Walker 256 carcinoma. Other compounds such as scutellarein, dehydrotectol, ceryl alcohol, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid further contribute to the plant’s medicinal properties.
