Description:
This medium to large deciduous tree features grey bark that peels off in small, irregular flakes and reaches heights of 15 to 25 meters. It is closely related to the cashew tree. The leaves are simple and alternate, with an oblong shape that is rounded at the tip; they are smooth on the upper side and hairy underneath. The flowers, which bloom in panicles and are greenish-white in color, typically appear in May and June. The tree produces a smooth, ovoid nut that is lustrous black and approximately 2.5 cm long. The fruits mature between December and March. The seeds found within the black fruit, known as godambi, can be eaten when properly prepared. Additionally, the fruits of this tree are utilized for dye production.
