Sanskrit Name: गतिः

In Ayurveda, gait (Cheshta or Gati) refers to the way a person walks, which is influenced by Vata dosha. Since Vata governs movement, its balance or imbalance directly affects a person’s gait.
Vata & Gait Characteristics:
Balanced Vata – Light, graceful, and energetic walking.
Imbalanced Vata (Excess) – Irregular, hurried, unsteady, or shaky gait.
Vata Deficiency – Sluggish, stiff, or weak movement.
Excess Vata aggravation can lead to jerky, unpredictable movements due to dryness and instability, while grounding practices like oil massage (Abhyanga) and proper diet help stabilize gait.

Alternate Name(s): Gait
