Description:

Primula veris exhibits a range of pharmacological properties attributed to its unique composition, including secretolytic, constrictive, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, diuretic, antimicrobial, antifungal, and sedative effects. The primary constituents found in its flowers and roots are triterpene saponins and phenolic compounds, which encompass flavonoids, phenolic glycosides, and phenolic acids. The expectorant and secretolytic properties are primarily linked to the saponins, while the phenolic compounds contribute to its antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Research has indicated that isorhamnetin aglycon, a compound within the plant, exhibits cytotoxic effects against human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Additionally, hyperoside compounds present in Primula veris demonstrate antiviral properties.
