Description:

Gandha Prasarini (Paederia foetida) is a climbing plant characterized by its ovate to lanceolate leaves, measuring approximately 5 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width. The leaves are membranous and feature long petioles. The plant produces flowers arranged in scorpiod cymes, which are typically purple or violet. Its roots are cylindrical or sub-cylindrical, flattened on either side, and display an outer surface marked with root scars. The fruits are compressed and ellipsoid, appearing in red or black hues. They are fibrous, with a brownish exterior and a light brown interior, possessing a bitter flavor. Gandha Prasarini is a significant herb in Ayurvedic medicine. The term “Gandha Prasarini” in Sanskrit translates to “spreading bad smell,” highlighting a distinctive characteristic of this herb, where “Gandha” means smell and “Prasarini” means spreading.
