Description:

Kiratatikta (Swertia chirata) is an upright annual herb that can grow between 0.5 to 1.5 meters tall. Its leaves are lanceolate, acute, and arranged oppositely along the stem. The plant produces numerous tiny flowers that are greenish-yellow with a hint of purple. It features pink or white hairs and sharp-pointed fruits. Historically, the entire plant has been utilized in traditional medicine for centuries. The name Kiratatikta translates to “utterly bitter,” and it is renowned in Ayurveda for treating infectious and inflammatory ailments, including skin disorders and fevers. A decoction made from this herb is particularly effective for healing wounds and alleviating symptoms such as oozing, burning sensations, and itching. Additionally, Kiratatikta acts as a blood purifier and promotes digestive health, helping to relieve constipation and enhance appetite when consumed in decoction or powder form.
