Sanskrit Name:Khurasānī
Devanagari Name:खुर्दानी
English Name: Henbane
Description:
Parasika Yavani (Hyoscyamus niger) is a hairy annual herb that can reach heights of 30 to 150 cm and emits a distinctive nauseous odor. This plant exists in two forms: an annual and a biennial. The annual variety thrives in summer, growing between 30 to 60 cm (1 to 2 feet), before producing flowers and seeds. In contrast, the biennial form develops only a cluster of basal leaves in its first year, which vanish in winter, leaving behind a thick, fleshy root. Flowering and fruiting typically occur from April to September. The stem can grow to several meters, and the leaves are alternately arranged, featuring irregular lobes that are smaller, sessile, and ovate in shape.
Benefits:
Khurasani (Hyoscyamus niger), also known as henbane, is a potent herb used sparingly in Ayurveda for its sedative and analgesic properties. It helps relieve severe pain, spasms, and anxiety. Due to its toxicity, it is used in minimal doses and only under strict supervision in Ayurvedic formulations targeting Vata-related neurological conditions.
Medical Conditions(Relief):
Khurasani is used for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. It helps relieve pain, especially in the joints, and can also be used to manage conditions like arthritis and muscle soreness.
Medical Conditions(Avoid):
Khurasani should be avoided in pregnant women and individuals with heart conditions.
