Description:

Dadrughna Lepa is a traditional Ayurvedic topical formulation specifically designed to combat Dadru, commonly known as ringworm or tinea infections. This herbal paste harnesses the antifungal properties of various medicinal plants to effectively address dermatophytic infections. The primary ingredients typically include Cakramarda (*Cassia tora*), known for its potent antifungal activity; Kushta (*Saussurea lappa*), which possesses antimicrobial properties; Saindhava (rock salt), acting as a cleansing agent; Sarshapa (*Brassica nigra*), which has rubefacient effects; and Vyosha, a combination of Trikatu (black pepper, long pepper, and ginger), enhancing the formulation’s potency. These components are finely powdered and mixed with a suitable medium, such as buttermilk or vinegar, to form a consistent paste.

The application of Dadrughna Lepa involves applying a thin layer of the paste over the affected skin areas, typically once or twice daily, and allowing it to remain for a specified duration before washing off. This treatment aims to alleviate symptoms such as itching (Kandu), redness (Raga), and scaling by eradicating the fungal pathogens responsible for the infection. Clinical observations have demonstrated the efficacy of Dadrughna Lepa in reducing the size and severity of lesions associated with tinea infections. Studies have shown that patients treated with this lepa experienced significant improvement in symptoms over a period of 20 to 30 days. In vitro evaluations further support its antifungal activity against common dermatophytes like *Trichophyton rubrum*, *Microsporum canis*, and *Epidermophyton floccosum*, with effectiveness comparable to standard antifungal agents at certain concentrations.

While Dadrughna Lepa is generally considered safe for external use, it is advisable to consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before initiating treatment, especially for individuals with sensitive skin or underlying health conditions. In summary, Dadrughna Lepa offers a natural and effective approach to managing dermatophytic infections, leveraging the synergistic effects of its herbal constituents to promote skin health and combat fungal pathogens.
