The flowers are purple and about 2 cm long. When ripe, the fruits are round and can be reddish or dark yellow, measuring around 1.5 to 2 cm. The seeds are smooth with minute pits. The roots are long and pale yellowish-brown, while the woody stem is cylindrical, ribbed, and well-developed, with a diameter of about 2.5 cm. It features numerous secondary roots that branch out, and its surface is rough due to longitudinal striations and root scars. The roots are short, splintery, and lack a distinct odor or taste.
