Malabsorption occurs in individuals who have received treatment for diarrhea yet continue to experience poor digestion, as well as in those with weak digestion who consume inappropriate foods and engage in harmful activities. The disrupted dosha affects the grahani, impairing agni functions. Symptoms include undigested food in stools, unformed stools (āma), expulsion of digested food, painful bowel movements, foul-smelling feces, stools that are a mix of formed and loose, feces containing āma, food, and undigested material, sudden occurrences of hard stools, abrupt loose stools, persistent swelling in the legs, swelling in the hands, a thin or malnourished appearance, joint pain, excessive thirst, vomiting, fever, loss of taste, a burning sensation, and various types of belching with distinct odors, including metallic and smoky smells, excessive salivation, and a loss of taste.
