Sanskrit Name:Lavaṅga

Devanagari Name:लवंग

English Name: Lavang

Description:

Lavang, commonly known as Clove (Syzygium aromaticum), is a highly valued spice and medicinal herb in Ayurveda, Unani, and traditional medicine systems. It is widely recognized for its strong aroma, pungent taste, and powerful therapeutic properties. Clove is rich in essential oils, particularly eugenol, which gives it strong analgesic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory qualities. It is commonly used in treating dental issues like toothaches, gum infections, and bad breath, as its antibacterial properties help fight oral pathogens. Chewing cloves or applying clove oil to affected areas can provide quick pain relief and prevent further infections.

Apart from oral health, Lavang is also beneficial for digestive health, as it helps in relieving bloating, indigestion, and nausea by stimulating digestive enzymes. It is often included in Ayurvedic formulations for treating respiratory conditions such as cough, asthma, and bronchitis due to its expectorant properties, which help in clearing mucus and soothing the throat. Additionally, clove’s antimicrobial and antifungal properties make it useful in skin care for treating acne and infections. In Ayurveda, it is believed to have a warming effect on the body and is used to improve blood circulation, boost metabolism, and alleviate joint pain. Clove is also a natural preservative and is used in food preparation for its flavor-enhancing and antimicrobial qualities. While generally safe, excessive use should be avoided, and individuals with sensitive stomachs should consume it in moderation.
