English Name: Plihari

Description:

Plihari Rasa, also known as Yakrit Plihari Loha, is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation primarily used in the treatment of liver and spleen disorders. This herbo-mineral preparation is renowned for its efficacy in managing conditions such as ascites, jaundice, hepatomegaly (enlarged liver), splenomegaly (enlarged spleen), anemia, and various digestive disturbances. The formulation comprises a blend of potent ingredients, including Danti (Baliospermum montanum), Trivrit (Operculina turpethum), Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica), Nirgundi (Vitex negundo), Trikatu (a combination of black pepper, long pepper, and ginger), Ardraka (fresh ginger), Bhringaraja (Eclipta alba), and processed iron (Loha Bhasma). These components work synergistically to balance the tridoshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—thereby promoting optimal liver and spleen function.

Plihari Rasa exhibits hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and digestive properties. It aids in reducing liver and spleen enlargement, alleviating symptoms of jaundice, and improving overall digestion. Additionally, it supports the body’s natural detoxification processes and enhances appetite. The typical dosage of Plihari Rasa is 125 to 250 mg, administered once or twice daily, preferably before meals, as directed by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. It is often recommended to be taken with appropriate adjuvants such as honey or warm water to enhance its therapeutic effects.

Due to the presence of potent herbal and mineral ingredients, it is imperative that Plihari Rasa is consumed under strict medical supervision. Self-medication is strongly discouraged, especially for pregnant and lactating women, as well as individuals with underlying health conditions. Adherence to the prescribed dosage and duration is essential to avoid potential adverse effects. In summary, Plihari Rasa serves as an effective Ayurvedic remedy for managing liver and spleen disorders, offering a holistic approach to restoring and maintaining hepatic and splenic health when used responsibly under professional guidance.
