Semal, also known as Silk Cotton Tree, is a large deciduous tree found predominantly in the tropical regions of India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia. It can grow up to 30 meters tall, with broad, glossy leaves and striking red flowers that bloom in the spring. The pods of the tree contain soft, cotton-like fibers, which are used in the textile industry. In Ayurveda, Semal is known for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. It is used to treat joint pain, arthritis, and muscle discomfort, as well as to improve digestion and reduce gas and bloating. The bark and seeds of Semal are used for their detoxifying effects and are known to balance Pitta and Kapha doshas. It helps in reducing heat in the body and is effective in managing respiratory conditions like asthma and bronchitis. Additionally, Semal promotes skin health, treating wounds, rashes, and skin infections due to its healing properties.
