English Name: Tuvrak

Description:

Tuvrak, scientifically known as Hydnocarpus laurifolia, is a medicinal plant widely used in Ayurveda for its potent therapeutic properties. The oil extracted from its seeds, commonly referred to as Tuvrak Taila or Chaulmoogra oil, has been traditionally used for treating various skin disorders. It is particularly effective in managing conditions like leprosy, psoriasis, eczema, ringworm, and scabies due to its antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. This oil is known to help in reducing skin irritation, inflammation, and infections, promoting overall skin health.

In Ayurvedic texts, Tuvrak is classified as a powerful remedy for skin diseases (Kushta Roga) and is believed to balance the Pitta and Kapha doshas. It is often applied externally in the form of oil or ointments to affected areas. The active compounds present in Tuvrak oil help in detoxifying the skin, improving blood circulation, and restoring natural pigmentation. It is also used in some traditional formulations to treat chronic ulcers and wounds.

While Tuvrak oil is highly beneficial, it should be used with caution as it may cause skin irritation in some individuals. A patch test is recommended before widespread application. Internal consumption of this oil is generally not advised without medical supervision, as it may lead to digestive discomfort. Consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner before use ensures safe and effective application tailored to individual needs.
