Description:
Khadira, also known as Black Catechu, is a deciduous tree that typically grows to a height of 9 to 12 meters, with some specimens reaching around 15 meters. This tree features short, hooked spines and its leaves are bipinnately compound, consisting of approximately 50 pairs of leaflets that resemble delicate feathers. The bark is a greyish-brown color, which peels off in long, narrow strips. The flowers are pale yellow and grow in cylindrical spikes, while the fruits are flat, glabrous, and take the form of oblong pods. The sapwood has a whitish-yellow hue. Khadira belongs to the Fabaceae family and has been widely exported for centuries due to its significant medicinal properties. It is commonly referred to by several names, including black catechu, black cutch, catechu, cutch, cutch tree, dark catechu, and gum catechu.
