Description:
Prishniparni (Uraria picta) is a perennial herb that typically grows to a height of 0.9-1.8 meters and features a somewhat branched structure. The leaves measure between 20-30 cm and are imparipinnate, consisting of 5-9 leaflets. The upper stem leaflets usually number 5-7 (occasionally 9) and are linear oblong in shape, ranging from 10-20 cm in length. They have an acute tip, a white blotched appearance, and are minutely pubescent on the underside, with a rounded base. The lower leaflets are narrowly lanceolate, measuring 7-25 cm long, often exhibiting a variegated pattern; they are shiny and hairless on the upper side while being rough and hairy underneath. The margins of the leaflets are entire. The inflorescence is characterized by a long, terminal spike-like raceme that can reach up to 55 cm in length, densely packed with flowers that are pink, bluish, or reddish, and covered in long whitish hairs. The fruit measures 5-9 mm long, folds into 3-6 segments, and transitions from brown to black, ultimately turning greyish-white as it ages.
