Rajeeka, known as Raai in Hindi, is a type of mustard seed widely utilized in cooking. This culinary ingredient is valued for its distinct aroma and its ability to aid digestion. It enhances the flavor of various dishes, including sambar powder and masala powder, among others. Scientifically classified as Brassica juncea, Rajeeka belongs to the Brassicaceae family. It has a pungent and slightly bitter flavor, with warming properties that help balance Vata and Kapha doshas. Additionally, it is known to assist with several health issues, including abdominal pain, loss of appetite, intestinal worms, wounds, and spleen-related conditions. The oil derived from these seeds is commonly used in cooking and is believed to boost digestive health.
