Its scientific name is Ficus glomerata, commonly referred to as the fig tree. This evergreen species is traditionally valued for its edible parts, use as fodder, and significance in ceremonial practices.

Initially green, the fruits turn orange or dark crimson as they ripen, emitting a pleasant fragrance. They are smooth, subglobose or pyriform in shape, and occasionally have minute soft hairs. The seeds are tiny, grain-like, and numerous.
The bark of the Udumbara tree is greyish-brown, ranging from 0.5 to 1.8 cm in thickness, uneven, soft, and cracked. Its inner surface is light brown with fibrous texture and has a mucilaginous taste without any distinct aroma.
