Description:
Talisa patra, scientifically known as Abies webbiana, is commonly referred to as the Indian silver fir. This species is part of the Pinaceae family, which is recognized as the pine family of conifers and is native to the northern temperate regions.
Talisa patra is a tall evergreen tree, capable of reaching heights of up to 60 meters, with robust branches that extend horizontally. Its bark is rough and brown in color, while the young shoots are covered with short, fine brown hairs. The leaves are single, thin, flat, and linear, arranged spirally around the smaller branches, measuring between 1 to 3 inches in length and 2 mm in width. The upper surface of the leaves is glossy and dark green, featuring a midrib that runs down the center, flanked by two faint lines on the underside.
The seeds of the talisa patra are winged, and the petiole is short and greyish-brown. This tree is monoecious, meaning that both male and female flowers can be found on the same plant. The fruits, which are either round or rectangular, measure 2 to 4 inches and turn dark purple when ripe. Additionally, the plant emits a terebinthine aroma and has an astringent taste.
